Valencia Community College is a multi-campus college located in Orlando, Florida and is the third-largest institution of the Florida College System. The college was founded in 1967 and enrolls more than 30,000 students in its programs each year, ranking it second in the United States for the number of Associate’s degrees awarded.

VCC enrolls an additional 5,000 students in its Distance Learning programs each year. Students in the Distance Learning program use a Campus Pipeline portal to access their courses, register and access various college services. This highly complex IT environment used the Banner Student Information System and Campus Pipeline to provide portal access and serve up the appropriate student content.

The Financial Aid department at VCC was interested in providing a personal finance course for its students, who often need advice and guidance on managing their finances, creating a budget, and understanding the basics of money management.

The biggest challenge VCC stood to face was the ability to find an e-Learning provider who had the tech savvy to integrate with their extensive IT environment.

THE SOLUTION

Digitec adapted its Brandon-Hall Excellence in eLearning award winning “Credit Compass” eLearning course for the Valencia students.

The game-based learning course was edited down into short topics, which were published through the MyAtlas student portal. The game allows Financial Aid personnel to assign the course to its students, view student pretest and post game scores, so that they can assess their learning.

THE RESULT

Digitec was able to assist VCC in:

• Integrating their new financial education modules into their existing Student Information System (SIS) and college portal.

• Providing users with single sign-on access to their assigned modules, based on the student profile.

• Automatically report pre-testing, post-testing, and survey data to the campus financial aid department.
